In a modern context, the vibrancy of orange and red signifies energy and applies to someone who is constantly seeking new adventures and inspiration, isn’t afraid to experiment or to step outside of their comfort zones, and is brimming with creative concepts. Red is the colour of desire but also of direction and vivacity; it’s a great shade to have in working spaces, such as home offices or in the kitchen, as it is thought to provoke productivity.

Orange conjures feelings of excitement, enthusiasm and warmth. It’s often used to draw attention to its surroundings, and in interiors accents of orange should be on statement pieces of furniture, or items that define a space, such as a carpet or artwork. This season, opt for bright tones with hints of pink and red, rather than sombre, rust-coloured oranges.

Benjamin Moore’s paint of the year is an energised red called Caliente AF-290 – a signature colour with bold strokes the eye can’t help but follow, claim the American manufacturer. The complementing paint palette includes rosy pinks, greys and creams, which will help calm a strong burst of red on a statement wall, or accented on chairs, cushions, and other accessories.
