This wonderful, contemporary home is full of creative details and vintage accents, inspired by the homeowners love for all things London and the airline industry, while the stunning panoramic views over the Emirates Golf Club greens and Dubai Marina skyline would be the envy of many expats in the UAE.
The amazing views won Dutch couple Claudia van der Werf and Michiel Schröeder over when they bought the three-bedroom apartment in Fairways West, The Greens, six years ago. They immediately opened the closed kitchen up onto the living and dining space, which boasts wall-to-wall windows, so they could enjoy the striking vistas from all areas, and a few years later added a crittal window in the home office that draws in the scenic outlook over the living room.
Their most recent upgrades were to the two bathrooms, transforming them into contemporary hotel-at-home shower rooms, with statement handcrafted geometric floor tiles from Mosaico adding colour – infused with a vintage patina – to the atmospheric spaces.
They own a number of unique pieces that add character to their home such as a pendant from a London Concorde hanger, a serving trolley from a defunct Canadian airline, an original Wurlitzer jukebox and vintage-style Campbell’s soup tins.
Claudia and Michiel founded the furniture and lighting store and rental company Desert River in 2004, two years after moving to Dubai, and quirky items from brands they distribute – Fatboy, Fermob, Filini and Sirius – accessorise the apartment with eye-catching details.
