The brief:

A personal retreat to appeal to both husband and wife in their master bedroom. The couple live in The Meadows, Dubai.

The budget:

For a similar makeover and purchases, look at investing Dh15,000 to Dh25,000.

The makeover:

We met the brief using a bold, masculine blue as the base colour, with neutral grey accents and blush décor, for a much-needed feminine element. Mixed with textures and neutrals we have created a cosy and inviting room whilst still maintaining a feeling of spaciousness. The “bones” of this room were great as a full home renovation provided tiled herringbone wood-look floors, white shutters and light grey walls, so we were tasked with dressing an already beautiful canvas. The ample size, high ceiling and natural light in the room allowed us to use a statement colour to draw the back wall closer and create a snug space. We installed a beautiful rose gold LED branch light as a centrepiece. The soft furnishings and décor were the final touches and gave the room a polished yet lived-in feel.

Blue, rose gold and blush details create a harmonious balance of soft and strong

Key buys:

The main pieces are predominantly from West Elm, the rose gold mirrored side table is from Aura Living and the ceiling chandelier was a bargain buy from Dragon Mart! The floor is a beautiful feature on its own, but a vintage-style rug from Zara Home adds a lived-in cosiness.

The client wanted to keep their orthopedic mattress and bed base, so we needed a creative way to incorporate and conceal its bland design. We added a custom headboard with matching box pleat base to cover the framework and create a more sophisticated finish. This enabled the client to have the mattress/base of their choice without sacrificing style for a good night’s rest!

Top tip:

I like adding an accent wall in a bedroom to create a focal point behind the bed. By painting the adjacent walls a neutral colour, you then make it easier to change the room if you tire of the colour scheme.
